Preventing and treating milk disease.

This complementary feed is the new solution against milking disease. With the “Start Up Boost Bolus” a completely new approach to milk disease is introduced. Thanks to this bolus the solution for the calcium and any phosphorus deficiency comes from the cow herself. New she is able to provide herself with the correct calcium and phosphorus levels also during the extreme peak around calving. The ingredient that does the work is calcitriol (1,25- dihydroxycholecalciferol glycoside). Calcitriol is extracted from dried and crushed leaves of Solanum glaucophylum. Calcitriol causes the animal to maintain her calcium level in different ways:

• The cow retrieves more calcium and phosphorus from her feed
• The cow has a lower calcium excretion through urine
•  The cow can release more calcium from her own bone system

Start Up Boost Bolus is applied two days for the expected day of calving and provides in a period of ten days the active ingredient. Now the cow is enabled to maintain the level of calcium in her blood from her own metabolism. The efficacy of calcitriol for use in dairy cows against milk disease is endorsed in an EFSA report (European Food Safety Authority). The patented Dairy Star Start Up Boost Bolus is marketed by Agriprom and is available exclusively for Agriprom dealers.
